The Town House was built as a 'house for the town'; a place to congregate, socialise and foster relationships over a meal and a drink. It is a public lounge and dining room with traditional food values, locally sourced produce and hospitality with local character.

"The history of human kind and social interaction has food and drink as its foundation. Many a decision has been made, a ritual celebrated or commiserated and a friendship fostered over a meal and a full glass. I was raised in a large family, which always meant having a full house, and was taught to nurture this notion of building relationships over a shared meal and the connection of our environment to our source of food. With this upbringing I developed an inherent passion for socialising and looking after people through hospitality and the provision of real food, fresh from the garden and farm, and I now welcome guests into my public house built for the townsfolk of Westport and its visitors to enjoy the same. A must do on your coastal itinerary and a favourite with the locals; I invite you to make yourself at home and enjoy our house and our town."

Westport is located on the Northern West Coast of New Zealand's South Island at the mouth of the mighty Buller River 15 minutes North of Charleston (a town nearby that was almost the capital of NZ). The Buller region is rich in history of pioneering days gone by, famous for being friendly, drier and warmer than widely believed, abundant in adventure activities and vast coast lines to explore, home to the Denniston Rose and NZ's largest open cast mine, an impressive golf course next to a beach next to a small airport that has flights to the capital twice a day, the only road that leads to Karamea, a large arts and crafts community, an entrepreneurial business community and currently NZ's only growing regional economy.

An easy day's drive from Nelson or Christchurch through the grand Buller Gorge or a 40 minute flight from Wellington will land you in this vibrant town which is the perfect base for your West Coast adventures or weekend leisure destination. The Town House is located towards the port end of town near the picturesque fishing wharf on the corner of Palmerston and Cobden Streets.



The kitchen teams food philosophy of 'no limitations' is applicable to all areas of the business including your special occasion - If it's possible The Town House will consider it. We don't charge a venue hire fee, but may ask for a minimum spend during peak season, we don't have a lot of rules or terms and conditions but we may set some at our discretion depending on the occasion. The best thing you can do is to call or email Emily and discuss your plans. Emily is the 'go to' person, she's good at organising and is happy to negotiate and accommodate.
